16-Inch MacBook Pro A2141 No Power and No Display Repair
This 16-inch MacBook Pro 2019 came from the Ashburton / Ashwood VIC 3147 area after it suddenly died.
The customer reported:
No power
No water damage

What We Found
This MacBook did not have water damage. Instead, we found a short circuit on one of the power rails.
A component area around CA601 had been burned and carbonised. This type of damage can become conductive and short the board.
We removed the damaged carbonised board material and repaired broken traces on the surface layer. The affected GPU power-control chip UA600 was also replaced.
After this first repair, the MacBook started accepting 20V from the USB-C charger, which was a major improvement.
But the screen still had no display.
Why the Mac Still Had No Display
After the main no-power fault was repaired, the MacBook was taking power again, but the GPU power system was not staying on.
Using an oscilloscope, we could see the GPU power rails start briefly and then shut down.
That told us the GPU was not completely dead. The board was trying to turn the GPU on, but the sequence was failing.
This is different from guessing that the screen or GPU chip itself is bad. The timing showed us where to look next.
The Hidden Fault
Because the burned area had required board repair, we suspected that some hidden connections had been broken.
We removed UA600 again and checked its pins carefully. Two pins were found open:

Pin 30These pins were reconnected to their original paths with jumper wires.
After that, the GPU power rails stayed stable and the display returned.
Why This Repair Matters
A MacBook that suddenly dies does not always need a full logic board replacement.
In this case, the original board was repaired by finding the actual damaged area and following the GPU power sequence step by step.
The repair needed:
- short-circuit diagnosis;
- board-level cleaning and carbon removal;
- surface trace repair;
- chip replacement;
- oscilloscope testing;
- jumper repair.
This is why proper board-level diagnosis is important. The MacBook could have been written off as a bad logic board, but the real fault was repairable.
Final Result
After repair:
- the shorted power rail was fixed;
- the burned board area was repaired;
- USB-C 20V negotiation returned;
- the GPU power sequence was restored;
- the display worked again;
- the MacBook became fully functional.
